It is primarily our leather that we are known for and that has made us true leather specialists. So it’s no wonder that we keep more than 160 colors on hand in different qualities to be able to satisfy all customer wishes. There’s something for every taste!
Many of the high-quality KOINOR leathers were originally tanned with raw plant material, namely with tanning agents from the South American Tara pod. Many of our leathers are now tanned with mineral metal salts but the name stuck.
“Tara” is and remains the designation for high-quality KOINOR leather.
Our leather comes mainly from cattle in Europe. They provide the best hides and it is only these hides that can be turned into the highest quality leathers. As large as possible, attractively-structured pieces and only a few natural characteristics (scars, creases of fat, etc.). As you will remember, leather is a natural product of a living creature, a material that has grown from a young animal into an adult. Each hide is different - one of a kind. The same applies to each piece of leather furniture. It is unique.
We only use leather which is obtained from the topmost layer of skin. It is particularly robust. KOINOR leather inspectors travel regularly to our tanneries and examine the leather hides to see whether they meet our high quality standards. The leather is not delivered to Michelau until these inspections are passed. Before the individual pieces can be cut out, however, all the natural characteristics must be marked which cannot be used for a certain quality of leather. On the average, we usually cannot use approximately 30% of a leather hide.
